How rad is that striped paper????  Right?!?!  I bought a piece several weeks ago and have been scared to use it because it's sooo fly.  But when I got to put it in the kit, I wasn't skeered anymore.  : )

 Y came over last weekend and we scrapped a few pages together and talked paint samples.  Here's one we made together, lifted from here.

It was really fun scrapping the same page.  Usually we each do our own thing, but this time there were lots of, "Hey, what are you doing for that?" and "Do you want one of these to sub out for this?"  And I'm pleased to report that our kitchen table worked great for scrapping with a friend.

On a related note, the new paint is going up after Valentine's day.  I'll be too busy with family, friends, scrapping for the store, my birthday, and the love jar to paint before then.  : )

You can't tell by looking at it, but I made this page when I was in a real funk.  At the beginning of last week, I was in a state of melancholy for two and a half days.  I listened to Coldplay's "Paradise" 57 times per iTunes.  Like all of my favorite songs, it's best listened to really loud.

I took the photo several years ago (2006 or 2007?).  It had been raining all day, and after dinner when it cleared up, Dave and I took Chrissy for a walk (which was really Dave and I walking and one of us carrying her).  The whole sky was hazy except for a double rainbow.

I like mimicking the rainbow in the photo with the colors in the chevrons.  I brought in some gray so that the colors would match my mood and not be too cheerful.  I didn't date the page or explain the title and journaling because it's just an emotion and when I look at it, I know what it means, like this page.  (I just reread the linked post, and it's kind of eerie how similar it is to this one.)

It's funny because as I'm blogging this, I'm back to my usual self.  If I had written this post last week, it would have been much more wistful and whiny.

instant love

Hey y'all,

Emmalie from Crop Paper Scissors asked if I could help her put together a kit for the store.  She twisted my arm, but I finally agreed.  ; )

The kit has a Valentine's/love theme: pink, red, white, brown, black, and white.  She threw in some of the cutest old game pieces.  I love the kraft color of the Bingo card and Scrabble tiles.

Here's what I made with the kit.

Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill.  Patterned paper: Echo Park, Jillibean Soup.  Stickers: Jillibean Soup.  Punches: Fiskars.  Pen: Sharpie. 

Two 12 x 12 pages and an envelope for little keepsakes.  It would be perfect for little kids who get Valentines from classmates or wives who get sweet notes from husbands (whaaaa?).  Even after all of that, I still have patterned paper and a ton of alpha stickers left over.

These kits will be rolling out every month, so start looking for them!

How 'bout a quick page?

Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill.  Patterned paper, journal card: Webster's Pages.  Chipboard alphas: Jillibean Soup.  Sticker alphas: Sassafrass.  Envelope: Maya Road.  Flower: Creative Imaginations.  Border punch: Fiskars.  Scallop scissors: Provocraft.  Pen: Sharpie.  Border stickers: Crate Paper.  I picked up all of the supplies from the store.

The only tricky part about this page was covering the kraft envelope with patterned paper.  I trimmed the paper to size and punched a hole out of the paper where the large circle is.   Then I shimmied the kraft circle through the hole in my patterned paper.  Finally, I adhered the patterned paper to the envelope.

I added patterned paper and a border sticker to the bottom of my journal card so that when the card sits in the bottom of the envelope, the top of the card is still showing.

And that's it!  The only other thing I had to do was drink wine with friends and take a few photos!

a walk in the park

So, when we were at the Christmas Eve service in Milwaukee, we were visiting with a dear family friend.  She said to Dave and me, "You look great!  Marriage agrees with you!"

I agree! Vehemently!

Ughh, this page looks so much better in person.  Go by the store and see it if you can.  I love the die cuts and the doilles and - everything, really.  This page came together in a snap in my mind as soon as I saw the die cuts.  Ooh, here's the sketch, plus lots of stitching because it had been too long.  : )

Here's to being with someone who makes it easy.  Cheers.

Hey y'all.

- "You're the worst kind.  You're high maintenance, but you think you're low maintenance."

It occurred to me several weeks ago that I might could be classified as a high maintenance friend.  Wife?  Yes.  Friend?  Drat.

Look, I just like reciprocation and enthusiasm.  Here's me justifying it.  : )  I expect a prompt reply to each email.  You say, "Let's throw a party," and I want to plan it NOW.  At least get it on the calendar.  If we're reading the same book, I want to talk about it, in detail, ad nauseum.  And I know how these things make me anxious, and I realized that it might be somewhat draining to be my friend.

Sigh.  Anyway.

So, I'm trying to be low maintenance.  Not even low maintenance - I'm sure that's unattainable for me.  But less high maintenance.  So...

Last minute dinner?  Perfect!  But we have to bring a dish!  No problem!  No reply text?  Whatevs!  No confirmation?  Just wait longer!

With that mindset, I threw together the following page. 

No plan!  No sketch!  No problem!

I just cut and layered.  TIP: When you try a layered design like this, use minimal adhesive (like only one corner) or temporary adhesive that becomes permanent after so many hours.  That way, you can shimmy extra layers underneath your top layers.

Sigh.  I love that paper on the pocket.  Doesn't it make you want to get into your grandmother's huge powder container and high heels?

 About once every other month, Dave asks if I want to go to Round Rock.  What he means is, "Do you want to escape a bit and spend a magical day shopping and holding hands and eating delicious food as we gaze across the table into each other's eyes?"

At least, that's what I hear.  Maybe it's because I'm a girl.  : )

So we go, and stroll, and have a quiet meal.

I think this is the first page I've done of just my in-laws.  I love the photo.  We were at a frozen yogurt shop in Wauwatosa, and Mike and Judy were posing for a photo for Jeremy when I snapped them.

This whole page popped into my head and came together really easily.  Of course, it's hard to make that heart fabric paper look bad.  I doubled and tripled and quadrupled the crepe paper ruffles because clearly, I'm obsessed.

I almost always have an idea of what I want my finished page to look like before I actually start scrapping, and I usually do a sketch first.  I thought it might be fun to start showing y'all my sketches when I have them.

I lugged my sewing machine to Houston last weekend just so I could make this page.  My mom adjusted the tension, but that still doesn't make it sew straight.  : /  [I've got a whole box of excuses for why I can't sew straight.]

Remember when I challenged myself to go over the top with bold colors?  I took that challenge again, ruffle-style.   

How much is too much?

I think I could have squeezed one more ruffle in there!

I varied the border punches and sewed a few strips a little crooked (on purpose - ha!).  I made the scalloped edges into "ruffles" by gently folding up the scalloped edges with my finger.  I also added a few pieces of ruffly lace.

This is the same paper I used on my scored tree.  It's available at the store.

Yep, that's all it takes to make me happy - ruffles and/or a margarita.  Ooh, guacamole.  And spaghetti.  And October Afternoon.  And laughing so hard that I slap my leg. 

And that's it.

I got a really good "happy" hug.

a friend helped herself to a drink at my house without asking for or saying anything.

my mom asked if she can call me every night because she misses me.

I got a compliment on my favorite sweater.

I finally finally found those jeans that I bought two months ago.  I knew I wasn't crazy!  Guess where they were?  Hanging in my closet with my other jeans.

Barkley streeeeetched as far as he could to put his head on my lap.

Ben said, "I like you, Felicity.  And I'm asking you one more time to please come with me." 

and she said, "I can't believe you came back for me."

I whispered to Dave, "Hey, are you asleep?" and he said, "Yes."

I dropped off another purging load to Goodwill and the guy thanked me three times.

the girl at Crop Paper Scissors said my mini album was sooo cuuuute! before she even opened it.

we ran into a college friend and his girlfriend and they were both totally cool.

Dave tried to explain set boxes to me and I said, "Talk to me like I'm five."

and then he tried to explain receivers to me and I said, "Is that the YouTube?"

And lots of other little things in the last few days that have made my heart smile.

something good

A few weekends ago, Dave and I went to a wedding for one of my friends.  Honestly, I wasn't fired up to go, not because I don't like weddings and not because I don't like her, but because I don't like being around big groups of people.  It's weird.  I love spending time with friends, but big things like weddings and Christmas parties make me so nervous that I will last-minute bail if given half the chance, even if I have friends that will be there.  The key to getting me there is making one-on-one plans for big events, like promising you'll sit next to me, or asking me to pick you up.

Anyway, I was expecting a mildly intimidating and self-conscious night with lots of watch-checking.  Instead, it was awesome.  The bride Emily was so beautiful.  I loved seeing her personal touches to the wedding that were perfect for her.  And we went with my best friend and sat with some coworkers who all brought their "A" games.  And even though Dave kept stealing my airport jokes and passing them off as his own, it was a riot.

AND, Dave was so sweet and generous to my best friend who was flying solo.  And I was surprised by it, not in a shocked way, but in an after-almost-ten-years-I'm-still-learning-about-you way.  So I made this page to remember that feeling of quiet pride and connectedness.

So remember when I said that I wanted to write my friends love letters for being so amazing?  Here's the first one of sorts.

I'm good at talking myself out of things.  And Jessie is very good at talking me into things.  Nothing illegal or anything, just good things.  ; )  Like making new friends and reading different books and taking more chances.  And she brings me back down to earth and puts things back into perspective and pulls me out of my wishy-washiness.  And she's fuh-nee.  Twice she's made me laugh until I was crying and couldn't breathe.

I misted the gray cardstock all over with Clay and Shimmer.  I think I'm getting pretty good at this misting business.  : )  I took the photos at twilight (hee hee), and it really made the shimmer mist pop.

The crazy thing about this page is that it's 8.5x11", and I always make pages that are 12x12".  But hey, if it's good enough for KP, it's good enough for me.

I usually get a little squeamish when I tell people how much they mean to me, but this wasn't so bad.  "This" being behind a blog veil and never speaking of this post to Jessie.  I think I'm going to roll with it.  Seems important.

I have a feeling that this week is going to be really amazing in a whirlwind kind of way.  Super-fly and super-fast.  I'll at least have a 29 list update and maybe one or two pieces of news.  ; )

 I hope everyone's off to a great weekend.  How about a quick page?  I'm not tired of scrapbooking yet, are you?

This page came together pretty easily.  I started by misting the pink and white ledger paper so that it would be less dainty.  The color of the mist I used (I'm still experimenting!) is Clay.  It's kind of a beige-ish gray.  I added some lazy stitching to the woodgrain paper/tree trunk to make it more interesting.  And then I punched a TON of hearts, including hearts from the woodgrain - you know, like tree branches.  : )  Thanks to Y for letting me borrow some of the heart punches.

First, let's count the number of grid papers on this page.  Second, check out the sheen in the bottom photo.  How much do you love the shine mist?  I don't usually like mists (mists are small squirt bottles filled with ink) because they're kind of willy-nilly and you can't undo it.  I like to be in control, and mists are hard to tame.  But on this page, I just went for it!  I didn't do a trial run, and I didn't even have a back-up sheet of the background paper if I messed up or didn't like it.  It's kind of hard to photograph, but it looks awesome in person.  The color is Mister Huey's Calico Shine by Studio Calico.  I'll be experimenting with this one a lot.

Plus, I love the photos.  And all the tags.  And the colors.  I mean, swoon.  Swoon, swoon.

Him: Our Chuy's just isn't good at all.  Next time you come down, I'll take you there and you can see for yourself.

Me: Not falling for that.

So, this was another experiment.  I got the confetti idea from Kelly Purkey.  Instead of punching a bunch of holes, I just emptied out my eyelet setters.  The experiment part was to smear Modge Podge on the page and sprinkle your confetti on top instead of gluing each dot separately.  It worked okay, but the Modge Podge left a sheen on the page.  (You can't really see it in the photos, but it's there in person.)  Verdict - ehh.  I'm glad I tried it, I like the page, but I'll try it differently next time.

The journaling and photos are straight from this post.  I can't decide if I like the butterfly paper or the bird paper better.  Swoon.

my heart is a smorgasbord

Hi, I'm back.  It wasn't the rapture.  ; )

I haven't blogged lately because I've been all over the place.  Working overtime, out of town guests, and exhaustion which led to a bit of laziness and a two-day funk.  I don't know, I just felt so unfocused last week.  And who wants to read a rambling blog that jumps all over the place?  But then I thought that if that's what's going on in my life and in my heart, then that's just me, and at least it's honest, right?

So, I still don't have a clear idea of what to blog about, but at least I'm telling you that I don't know what to blog about.  : )

Anyway.  Moving on.

I lifted this page from April Foster.  My favorite thing is that it uses (almost) the whole alphabet.  Oh, I'm still loving the banners of letters, too.  I think this is the fourth one I've done.  I went crazy with the journaling by mixing my handwriting with the small alpha stickers. 

I cut the "M" in the center from a sheet of patterned paper.  I carefully cut the pretty border from a second sheet of paper and sewed it to my page.

 

I have three stacks of photos and the new Amy Tangerine line on my desk...so yeah, it going to be a good week.

I love how the words in the photo are actually the first part of the title:

-Why yes, yes I do.

I've had a 24 pack of Sassafrass cards for about two years.  I liked them, but I couldn't ever figure out how to use them because first of all, there are 24 of them, and second of all, they're so colorful that it's hard to match them with patterned paper.  And then, last week, an epiphany.

I've had an awful lot of epiphanies lately.  I'm bound to run dry here pretty quick.

I could make a page with just the cards and no patterned paper!  I'll give you three guesses as to how long I spent arranging the cards in that pattern.  HINT: You're too low!  : )

Sidebar: I made this page at j-dog's house while we were watching Sleepless in Seattle ("That's your problem!  You don't want to be in love.  You want to be in love in a movie!" and "I've never seen potatoes cooked that way before.").  Every so often, I would turn around and say, "How does my page look now?"  Bless her heart, she would look up every time and try to figure out what I had even changed and what she was supposed to say!  It was fun (for me - ha!) watching her try to be a good sport.  ; )

To tack the cards down, I would ordinarily stick an adhesive square in each corner of each card.  Instead, I used one square in the center of each card just to keep everything in place while I stapled.  You can tell by the photos that there are some gaps under the cards. 

Just like the car photo from Wednesday, I used this photo in the Chicago mini album, but it's one of my favorites, so I used it again.  I'm crazy that way.
