Taylor Swift's new album Red came out eleven days ago, and I have been listening to it for twelve days straight. : ) Here's my synopsis.
Winner winner chicken dinner: Treacherous. I love the lyrics, love the swells, love the music. And it's fun to sing to.
Favorite lyrics: the whole song, especially "this hope is treacherous/this daydream is dangerous," except the line "but you're friction" because it doesn't really flow or rhyme.
The one to blast with your sunroof open and windows down: I Knew You Were Trouble. For when you know better but you do it anyway.
Favorite lyric: "I knew you were trouble when you walked in/So shame on me now-ow."
The one that hurts my heart: The Moment I Knew from the Target Exclusive Deluxe album, about the turning point when you realize he will always disappoint you. She does such a good job of painting the scene, and the emotions are spot-on.
Favorite lyrics: "What do you saaaaay when tears are streaming down your faaaace in front of everyone you know?" + "You should've been there/and I would've been so....happy."
The 180 degrees song: Stay Stay Stay. I thought it was so ridiculous the first time I heard it, but Taylor's laugh at the end totally makes it.
Favorite lyrics: "That's when you came in wearing a football helmet and said, 'Okay, let's talk.' " + "It's been occurring to me I'd like to hang out with you for my whole li-i-ife."
Best one to run to: Red. Re-eh-eh-ed, re-eh-eh-ed.
Favorite lyric: "But lovin' him was red."
The one that I just listen to and don't try to sing along: The Last Time. I love the piano at the beginning and the strings in the middle.
Favorite lyrics: "You wear your best apology/but I was there to watch you leave" + "This is the last time I won't hurt you anymore."
The one that's growing on me: Begin Again. It's too specific for me to really love it.
Favorite lyric: "I think it's strange that you think I'm funny cuz he never di-id."
Overall: I really like the songs that I like, but I don't really like the other ones. Speak Now is still my favorite album as a whole, but this one has its moments.
Shout-out to my lunchmates who graciously went with me at lunch to pick up the album because 1. I wanted it for the drive home and 2. I could not wait any longer. Kari was having a rough morning, but she said that my giddiness brought her out of it. It was all I could do to not belt it out in the car on our way back to the office. : )
