I don't like being 29.
It's not because it's one year older or one year away from 30. I don't care about that, although I reserve the right to change my mind at this time next year. I don't like it because I don't feel any different.
The last several years have been marked by milestones:
21 - got engaged
22 - graduated and started new job
23 - got married, built a house
24 - bought two new cars
25 - first promotion
26 - studied for CPA exam in self-imposed exile
27 - second promotion, passed CPA exam
28 - CPA certificate, road trip, lots of time with family and friends
I don't foresee many milestones this year. I might have one or two up my sleeve...or uterus (kidding!). But I want this year to be different. I don't want to plod along, particularly because I don't want to look back on this time of life before kids and feel like I wasted it. I want something to show for it. Of course, there is certainly something to be said for the intangible progress like building a marital foundation and savings account. But those aren't as fun to scrapbook. : )
So, I decided to do what I do best: make a list.
I've always made summer lists, but I didn't really make them into "goals" or actually even work to make them happen (ha!). I got the idea of an annual list from Kelly Purkey and Elise Blaha. When I coupled their lists with my sense of pre-offspring urgency, it seemed like a perfect solution for me.
I now present (trumpet blaring: dum dum da du-u-um!)...the 29 list. 29 things that I'd like to do while I'm 29.
As I complete each item on the list, I'll post it here, and I'll probably make the whole experience into a mini album (satisfying #4 above :) ) at the end of the year.
So here we go. Embracing 29 and making it memorable.
