Not only did I meet the talented, kind, and hilarious Margie Romney-Aslett of The Girls' Paperie (whose favorite expression is , "Stop that right now!" as in, "You got that on clearance? Stop that right now!"),
but also, she liked my "aspire" page that I made with her paper! (At least, she said she liked it - ha!)
Then, I found out that after seeing this photo on a design team page:
a customer asked if I sell my aprons! Seriously?!?
THEN, the coolest thing ever. I've told this story four times already, and I still can't do it without welling up. I was at Crop-Paper-Scissors' crop night sitting next to a lovely lady I'd never met before. I look over, and she had this in front of her, and she had picked up the matching supplies. It's a page I did last month for the design team, and it's displayed in the store.
Cardstock: Bazzill. Patterned paper, journal block stickers: October Afternoon, Thrift Shop line. Letters: American Crafts Thickers, Delight. Buttons, journal block (ledger): Jenni Bowlin. Pearls: Kaiser. Punch: EK Success. Pen: Sharpie.
Well, I flipped out a little. I wasn't really even coherent. I said (squealed?), "Oh my gosh, can I just tell you, this has never happened to me before, you don't know this, but that's my page! I made that page! You're making my page! "
Fast-forward a few minutes. I was able to calmly tell her that it's one of my mom's favorites, and I think she likes it because it's more sentimental to our family. My new friend then started to tell me that it reminds her of being a little girl, and how every year her mom would make their Easter dresses without a pattern, and then she said, "Well, let me tell you a story... ... [she got a little choked up] ... No, I can't tell you, but just know that you have really blessed someone today."
Anyone who knows me knows that I can't be within a two-mile radius of someone crying without crying myself. And for that reason, I couldn't look at my new friend for five solid minutes.
All of that over some paper and stickers?
Well, no. It's not about paper and stickers. It's about sharing your life, dreams, fears, joys. It's about preserving memories and traditions and telling our stories. But how amazing is it that without even knowing it, I could remind someone of such heartwarming memories?
